The results are impressive, initial connection times have been reduced by a factor of 10, enquiries are up to 5 times faster over a LAN and 30 times faster over WAN, and bandwidth utilisation is reduced by a factor of 4.

July 9, 2004 -- Reuters selects the Digital Aspects XMLA Provider and obtain a 30 fold performance improvement for Analysis Services.

Today Digital Aspects announced that Reuters plc, the world’s largest multimedia news company, has selected their XMLA Provider to increase reporting performance for their Microsoft Analysis Services users.

The Reuters internal financial reporting and analysis system has 800 users distributed around the world accessing a central group of Microsoft Analysis Services servers based in the UK. Reuters experienced performance issues with their existing system, particularly for remote users connected through low bandwidth or high latency connections.

Robin Grosset CTO of Digital Aspects explains, “Our experiences developing real-time XMLA solutions have resulted in an off-the-shelf XMLA Provider product which dramatically improves end users’ experiences. Digital Aspects is a member of the XMLA council and consider the early adoption of such emerging standards as very significant. We are delighted that Reuters are getting such fantastic benefits from the technology.”

In conjunction with Reuters, Digital Aspects have worked to tune their XMLA Provider to create a optimal communications layer for Microsoft Analysis Services. The results were impressive, initial connection times were reduced typically by a factor of 10, enquiries were up to 5 times faster over a LAN and 30 times faster over WAN, and bandwidth utilisation was reduced by a factor of 4.
