Burlington MA, August 23
Viapoint Corporation, a pioneer in the emerging desktop organizer software market, today announced the availability of two new adapters, Windows Desktop Search and Rocketinfo, for the Viapoint Smart Organizer. These adapters make it easier for users to organize related files, emails and news feed content by saving desktop and web content from searches into Viapoint virtual folders. The free download is available at www.viapoint.com.
Viapoint Smart Organizer is leading the charge to adopt desktop search tools as platform technology by being one of the first software products to use Microsoft's recently released query API (http://addins.msn.com/devguide.aspx) to deliver an integrated application. The adapter eliminates the need for repeated searches of desktop content by saving and filing search results. Using virtual folders in Viapoint, users can create relationships between their content and work that are unavailable through keyword searches by tagging, and categorizing information. For example, a sales person can build a virtual folder for a client to save Microsoft Word documents sent to customers, spreadsheets from accounting, key news stories about the client and emails from operations.
"Because our users consistently emphasize how important search tools are to them, Viapoint is committed to delivering systems that complement and enhance the value of popular desktop and Internet search engines. Adding these adapters demonstrates how Viapoint can be used to integrate applications, search and web services," said Dan Housman, VP of Marketing, Viapoint
According to one beta user, "Viapoint is a clean, user-centric program that I enjoyed very much." David York, Human Resource Professional
The Rocketinfo adapter gives Viapoint users the ability to find and organize news and weblog content that is relevant to their work, directly on their desktops. As a result of this partnership, the Viapoint Smart Organizer delivers full access to the 16,000-source Rocketinfo news database, along with content from the thousands of weblogs indexed by Rocketinfo. The free version of the Viapoint Smart Organizer features basic news search functionality from Rocketinfo, with results that include embedded, contextual advertising. The upgraded version of the Rocketinfo adapter will include advanced search features and functionality along with the ability to save searches, create alerts and share relevant items with colleagues.
"The Viapoint Smart Organizer is an intuitive, time-saving tool for organizing the flood of information we face everyday," said Rocketinfo COO Murray Owen. "Given the direct and immediate impact news has on our jobs and the decisions people are being called upon to make, we believe the Viapoint Smart Organizer is a critical tool for delivering Rocketinfo's news content in the context of how people work. We are very excited about working with Viapoint."
The free version of Viapoint allows unlimited use of Viapoint's full feature set, allowing users to work more organized with files, RSS feeds and web links, but requires paid adapters for connectivity to popular email programs and CRM applications.
