WARRENTON, Va.-- The Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) has updated SPECweb2009, its worldwide standard for web server performance evaluation, to include ASP.NET scripts for high-performance applications.

SPEC members active in developing SPECweb2009 V1.10 include AMD, Fujitsu, HP, IBM, Intel and Sun Microsystems.

Broadening the reach

SPECweb2009 V1.10 gives users the option of measuring performance based on applications employing ASPX, JSP or PHP scripts. The banking, ecommerce and support workloads in SPECweb2009 V1.10 measure peak performance as the maximum number of simultaneous user sessions that a web server is able to support while meeting specific throughput and error-rate requirements. Results from different SPECweb2009 V1.10 scripts cannot be compared to one another, and are listed separately on the SPEC web site.

“This release is another step in reaching out to as many in the web server community as possible while maintaining SPEC’s standards for objective and representative performance measurement,” says Rema Hariharan, chair of the SPECweb project committee.

SPECweb2009, released in early June, replaced SPECweb2005 and introduced the ability to measure power consumption while running the banking, ecommerce and support workloads.

The SPECweb2009 V1.10 package comprises code for the primary client and clients that run the benchmark, code to generate data sets on the web server, backend simulator code, and the power temperature daemon that collects data from the power analyzer and temperature sensor.
