London, UK February 5 2004--Briffa http://www.briffa.com the law firm continues its growth in interactive sector with appointment of partner Alex Chapman.

Briffa is a rapidly growing law firm based in Business Design Centre, Islington, catering for specialised law including copyright, design, patents, trademarks and trade secrets (known collectively as Intellectual Property) within the digital sector. Chapman, who has spent four and a half years at the firm as a solicitor, has been made a partner in the firm specialising in the new media and interactive entertainment and computer games arena.

Before becoming a lawyer and whilst at law school, Chapman was involved in setting up a software development company specialising in online and personal computer games. The company is now a Briffa client, and just one of the sectors that Chapman and Briffa specialise within.

Margaret Briffa, Founder of Briffa comments, “Alex has been instrumental in developing the digital and interactive media, licensing and computer games sectors; advising on contentious and non-contentious issues across the board at Briffa and for media enquiries.”

Chapman acts for a wide range of clients including leading games developers Sports Interactive, The Creative Assembly, Minds Eye and Exient and online businesses such as Neutralize (**) http://www.neutralize.com, Firebox and sundayleague.com.

Briffa adds, “The growth of the firm has been due in part to our continued success in the rapidly evolving interactive arena, especially over the last couple of years the market impact has had upon traditional and digital businesses alike. We are extremely pleased that Alex is now a partner at this firm, continuing to deliver first-rate legal services to an array of SME and corporate clients; enabling them to keep abreast of developments that effect their business on a daily basis.”

2003 saw a period of considerable growth for the firm who recruited two other specialist lawyers in Paul Randle (advertising and branding expert) and Naazneen Schmittzehe (general IP and anti-counterfeiting).

The firm is also acting for 321 Studios in its battle with Warner Home Video in a landmark legal action brought under the new Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003
