FREMONT, Calif., April 16, 2003— 3PAR™, the leading Utility Storage provider, today announced sustained business growth and the addition of new customers. To date, the company has booked 20 orders for its 3PAR InServ™ Storage Server platform to 13 unique customers across the U.S. and Japan. The company has also successfully launched a new, powerful Utility Storage solution for rapid application recovery of Oracle databases; received VERITAS qualification of its solution in mission-critical Oracle Real Application Cluster environments; and added new key partnerships to its already strong portfolio.
3PAR InServ Purchases Building
3PAR began shipping its Utility Storage platform in September 2002. In spite of an uncertain economy, adoption of the 3PAR InServ Storage Server continues to be strong. Quarter over quarter sales grew 100% for the March quarter, totaling 10 systems. The company has now booked 20 orders overall, and includes repeat purchases from companies both in the U.S. and in Japan.
“3PAR’s consistent execution in spite of an uncertain economic climate is impressive,” said Steve Denegri, managing director at RBC Capital Markets. “It signifies that with its Utility Storage solution, 3PAR has brought to market a tremendous value proposition that captures both the minds and budgets of IT managers worldwide.”
Utility Storage Making Inroads
Two recent customer wins demonstrate success in new vertical markets for 3PAR. Boston-based Infinity Pharmaceuticals recently purchased a 3PAR InServ through Corporate Technologies, Inc., an authorized 3PAR Solution Delivery partner. Infinity represents a significant win in the bio-pharmaceutical market, where information-intensive applications and mission-critical requirements are well suited to the 3PAR platform.
In the retail service industry, 3PAR sold to UniquE Solutions of North Carolina, a turnkey solution provider for handheld data collection and web reporting to the retail service industry. The ease of use, flexible quality of service capabilities, and scalability of 3PAR’s utility storage solution are key drivers in this market.
“The 3PAR solution is a particularly good fit for bio-pharmaceutical companies,” said Jesse St. Laurent, director of Research and Development for Corporate Technologies. “In an industry where time-to-market can mean tens of millions of incremental dollars, the 3PAR InServ’s performance, granular scalability and rapid time-to-solution address critical requirements for the data-intensive environments typical in this market.”
Historical Sales Perspective
Sales success has been achieved in many of 3PAR’s target markets: enterprise datacenters and engineering environments, traditional service providers, and state and federal government.
Specifically, 3PAR enterprise datacenter installations now include Oracle databases and Microsoft Exchange, as well as server change management, and remote boot deployments. Enterprise engineering installations include VLSI development, software development and testing. Finally, traditional service provider deployments include software development; video editing and streaming; IT services projects; and e-government hosting.
Common themes in each of these installations have been storage consolidation, information-intensive applications, or outsourcing/insourcing requirements. Historically, 3PAR InServ Storage Servers have averaged over 5 terabytes (TBs), and include systems configured with several times that capacity. Varying numbers of host servers are being attached to the 3PAR InServ, ranging from a single server, to nearly 90 in the most highly consolidated environment.
“Rapid, repeat purchases by customers are a testament to the benefits of Utility Storage solutions for their production environments,” said David Scott, president and CEO of 3PAR. “3PAR guides customers to a strategy of simplicity for building rich, yet cost-effective, information-centric IT architectures that is a much welcomed alternative to the crisis of complexity that has been the order of the day with traditional storage.”
New Partners Enrich Utility Storage Solutions
In addition to strong sales success, 3PAR has also continued to build momentum with its partners. New and strengthened Alliance Partnerships with leading Fibre Channel players have been secured. In addition to qualifying Brocade and JNI products with its Utility Storage platform, 3PAR is a recognized member of Brocade’s Fabric Threads program and JNI’s SANPartner program. This recognition equips 3PAR with incremental resources to support joint customers. These partners join a world-class set of 3PAR Corporate, Alliance, and Solution Delivery Partner relationships that include Oracle, Sun Microsystems, VERITAS, HP, Emulex, Qlogic, Advanced Systems Group, Corporate Technologies, Net One Systems and Nissho Electronics.
Finally, 3PAR has added support for a number of new server and operating system platforms, including Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1, VMWare ESX, Solaris 9, and Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER. 3PAR has been swift to react to customer requirements for unique platform, operating system and Fibre Channel host bus adapter combinations. Each of these qualifications has been driven by the requirements of one or more of 3PAR’s Utility Storage customers.
